Published on (10-10-2014)

Funcom, a world-leading independent developer and publisher of online games, and Intel Corporation, one of the largest chip makers in the world, today announced that the companies have entered into a development and marketing agreement for LEGO® Minifigures Online, an online game based on the hugely successful brand of collectible toys.

LEGO Minifigures Online recently concluded its Open Beta stage and is now available in English, German, French and Spanish on the Windows PC. Funcom is also working on a version for the Mac, as well as versions for iOS and Android tablets. The game will feature full cross-platform play on shared servers, allowing kids of all ages to share the fun together. The game is also fully integrated with the latest Minifigures Series 12 release, with codes in millions of bags released across the world which unlocks unique in-game Minifigures.

Funcom and Intel will work together to ensure that the next-generation family oriented digital entertainment on devices powered by Intel processors is taken to the next level, with both optimizations and new features. LEGO Minifigures Online will fully support the Intel-based Windows tablets from Q4 2014 and the Intel-based Android tablets from Q1 2015.

"Intel is one of the important players in the world of technology today and we are very excited to be working so closely with them on LEGO Minifigures Online," says Funcom CTO (Chief Technology Officer) Rui Casais. "We will be co-developing several unique features for the game, on both DirectX 11,  12 and Open GL ES 3.1, and we will be working with their team doing important optimizations for Intel integrated hardware ranging from tablet chips to the high-end CoreTM i7 Processor."

“We are committed to working closely with Funcom to ensure a great LEGO Minifigures Online gaming experience that will delight users of Intel processor-based PCs and tablets,” says Christos Georgiopoulos, vice president of Intel’s Software and Services Group and general manager of the Developer Relations Division. “From Intel-powered Android and Windows tablets, to Ultrabooks, 2 in 1 and All-In-One PCs, users will enjoy visual and performance benefits from our optimization work together.”

In addition to providing extensive developer support, Intel will also identify promotional opportunities for LEGO Minifigures Online that may include marketing and distribution through Intel channels, cross-promotions, retail demos and more.
