– LEGO fans of all ages can share the fun and adventure together in the same world on PC, Mac, Linux and select iOS and Android tablets this summer –
Oslo, Norway – May 13th, 2015 – The Minifigures are coming! In fact, they are making a splash on a wide range of gaming platforms. Funcom is excited to announce that LEGO® Minifigures Online will be launching in an all-new form as a buy-to-play game on PC, Mac, Linux and select iOS and Android tablets this summer – featuring full cross-platform play.
Whether you are playing on your iPad on the bus coming home from school, or sneaking in a few minutes of fun on your work computer; everyone plays in the same online world, and you can pick up where you left off with your characters and progress on any platform. Playing with your friends, both new and old, has never been easier!
Funcom also announced today that LEGO® Minifigures Online will be adopting a traditional buy-to-play business model and that the developers are working on significant overhauls, additions and improvements to the game to prepare it for the full, cross-platform launch. During an initial run as a free-to-play game on the PC, Funcom has been gathering valuable player feedback and have been able to review in detail how various components of the game's content, gameplay and business model have played out.
"The initial run on PC has been very valuable for us and we have learned a great many things about the game and its audience," says Funcom CEO, Rui Casais. "No doubt free-to-play can be a great offering, but it is not necessarily the best option for any game. The model in itself can be challenging with a young audience, and we also saw that it had a detrimental effect on gameplay and the kids' enjoyment of the game. As a result, we are taking the necessary steps needed to make sure we unlock the full potential of LEGO® Minifigures Online and make it an enjoyable experience for LEGO fans of all ages."
Gearing up towards the full cross-platform launch this summer, the developers are making important changes and enhancements to the game across the board. For instance, a new narrative is being introduced, featuring a voiced storyteller and exciting cinematics guiding the player on a journey through the many colorful worlds they get to explore. New gameplay mechanics are being introduced, unique events are popping up throughout the worlds, and more content is being added in the buy-to-play version releasing this summer.
